When it comes to travelling as one of the LGBT community, it is important to choose a destination that is friendly and inclusive. Many of these destinations became sanctuaries years ago. They encourage self-expression. Below are places that boast of an inclusive attitude, cultural diversity and natural beauty.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Denmark made history by being the first country to recognise same-sex relationships in 1998. It may be the home for Lego and New Nordic cuisine, but it is also home to the world’s oldest open gay bar. Copenhagen has one of the most tolerant and open communities in Europe. The edgy fashion scene, cocktail bars and gay-friendly boutique accommodation make it the friendliest gay destination.

 

New Zealand

New Zealand has made inclusive and progressive effort towards the LGBT community. There are brilliant networks of gay-friendly homestays from the north to the south. Gay ski week has become one of the popular events in New Zealand.

Toronto, Canada

Any LGBT traveler finds Toronto to be his/her beacon. Canada is the most advanced and progressive nature when it comes to the LGBTQ community. The Village is a hub of culture, galleries, theatres and gay-friendly businesses. It also hosts events such as Pride Week Celebrations which have caused the gay sub-culture to thrive and blossom.

 

Palm Springs, US

Palm Springs is located in Los Angeles where the sun seems to shine all year round. It has embraced everything about the LGBT community. Gay travellers can enjoy outdoor activities, excellent shopping and dining. Furthermore, there’s plenty of male and female-only accommodation and gay resorts.

 

Sitges, Spain

The coastal city Sitges is home to the first gay disco in Spain. It is a preferred European travel destination for gay individuals. It has clothing-optional beaches and many same-sex-exclusive Mediterranean cruises.

 

Berlin, Germany

Berlin boasts of a vibrant and inclusive gay history. It has a diverse range of clubs, bars and restaurants for sampling. Every fetish for a gay traveller can be catered for in Berlin.

Gay men have been flocking to the Greek Island of Mykonos since Jackie Onassis started visiting in the 70s. The whitewashed houses and flower-filled gardens are glamorous for any holiday. The sandy beaches and crystal waters of Skiathos are the ideal relaxed and authentic experience for an LGBT traveller.

 

New York City, US

New York is home to incredibly inclusive communities and gay-friendly accommodations. There are significant landmarks around the city such as Christopher Street and the Lesbian Herstory Archives.

 

Reykjavik, Iceland

Reykjavik is viewed as one of the friendliest places on earth. Furthermore, the country itself has progressive LGBT laws. The perfect waterfalls, dormant volcanoes and geothermal lagoons are just right for LGBT adventurers.

 

Montevideo, Uruguay

Uruguay is the most progressive South American country. It was the first to legalise same-sex relationships. It has a relaxed attitude in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life. However, public displays of affection are not advised.
